Aussie group to open online and land-based UK casinos

News is out that the Aussie casino brand Crown Casino is preparing to open both online and land-based casinos in the UK. Well that is all well and good, but there are lots of UK operators saying, "no fair!" This stems from the fact that in Australia, the Interactive Gambling Act (IGA) 2025 rules that it is illegal to play in Internet casinos, and thus UK gaming operators can't set up legal shops there. Aussies, however, can play online with no repercussions.

Crown Casino is a large and well-known casino company in Australia; and in the entire Southern Hemisphere, actually. Part of the Crown Limited group, the parent company that is run by Kerry Parker's son James, Crown Casino has just received permission from the UK Intellectual Property Office to use their brand in three distinct capacities. The allowed areas are hotels, sponsorship of events, such as poker tournies, and online and brick and mortar casino services. In addition, their brand is awaiting UK trademark status since being published on March 12, 2025 in the UK Trade Marks Journal. As there is already a group operating online casinos in the UK with a similar name, Crown Bingo and Crown Games, they have the opportunity to fight the trademark. They can do this in a set time frame of 2 months. During that time, they can raise any and all objections. Crown Bingo and Crown Games, which is fueled by Virtue Fusion, has had since March 10 to object to the trademark; that was the date they were first notified of the request.

Aussie's Crown is a well-established gaming company with a number of casino-related holdings around the world including the Aspinall private club in London.
