Roulette
The Aim of the Game
The basic aim of Roulette is to predict which number the ball will land on after each spin of the wheel. In short, if the player chooses correctly, they win. To a large extent, Roulette is a game of luck. Different players have their own systems for picking numbers, some watch the game to see if any numbers seem to come up more than others, they refer to them as 'hot' numbers while others take the opposite approach and see which numbers have not come up for a while and bet on them. It is also possible to bet on more than one number at once; however, with this system the winnings are smaller. There are specific roulette systems and money management systems which some players use.
Rules
A European Roulette wheel contains thirty-seven numbered pockets (1 – 36 and a 0), an American Roulette wheel has thirty-eight; its extra pocket is 00. Bets can be placed on individual numbers, a mixture of numbers, the black or red numbers or on even or odd numbers. The odds of the ball landing in any given pocket are 1 to 36. There is nothing else that needs to be known to play Roulette except for a good betting strategy.
A game begins when all the players have placed their bets by positioning their chips on the numbered layout. The croupier spins the ball in the opposite direction to that which the wheel will spin.
A player may place a bet until the ball falls from the track onto the spinning wheel; at this point the croupier declares that there will be "No More Bets". The ball will come to rest at a number on the spinning wheel, a marker is placed on the winning number and the winnings are paid out.
Since the only element of skill in Roulette comes in knowing how to bet, it is essential to know about what bets are available.

Did you Know?
Playing James Bond's number
People who are new to Roulette are often told to bet on 17 black for luck. The reason for this is simple, apparently James Bond always bets on 17 black.
However, a quick look into James Bond films and literature shows that this is not the case. In the film Casino Royale Bond plays complicated progression systems betting on the even numbers. In the book Thrilling Cities, Bond plays a system which is described as "the only way of gambling with a capital of ten pounds with a reasonable prospect of making the price of a good dinner". The betting method known as the Labouchère system is then played by Bond.
So do not be fooled into thinking that there are lucky numbers, Bond's success comes from careful study of strategy systems and so too will yours.
