American casino operators change stance on online gambling

At long last there seems to be a bit of a turnaround in the attitude of the American casino industry towards the idea of legalised online gaming. Whereas they once opposed any form of online gambling Harrah's is now its most vocal supporter within the gaming industry.
Harrah's have given the backing to a bill written by the U.S. Representative Barney Frank, the idea of the bill is to create a framework which would allow online gaming sites to accept bets from U.S residents. Harrah's currently runs three gambling websites in the United Kingdom where internet gambling is legal and they are now looking to set up similar websites for their American customers.
The American Gaming Association changed its neutral stance on internet gambling in March, they now believe that the technology which would allow regulation of online gambling at the state or federal level has been developed. Gaming regulators and online gambling supporters in Nevada believe that it is the obvious choice of state to serve as the centre for licensing online gaming companies; this would also see the state earn millions in tax licensing fees.
With the exception of Harrah's, most other casino operators have not expressed an opinion on the topic. However, the New York Times recently reported that Wynn Resorts Ltd have changed their stance from "never" to a "we'll see".

In 2025 Congress approved a law which made it a crime for banks and other financial institutions to process transactions used for online gambling, however, this has not prevented Americans from gambling online. According to the American Gaming Association in 2025 almost $6 billion was bet online by U.S residents, that accounts for 23% of money bet on the internet in the same year.
A recent Congress Budget Office examination of the Frank bill estimated that its enactment would see an increase in tax revenues of $971 million, a figure high enough to grab anyone's attention.
