Costa Rica is home to around 500 gaming operators that bring in $14.5 billion annually. These gaming providers are attracted to the country since it doesn't have any online gaming regulations, simply providing ordinary commercial licenses to all businesses in order to control taxes.
The Research and Markets (R&M) organization wrote a detailed report entitled "Costa Rica Gaming and Gambling 2025", which outlines the gaming situation of Costa Rica. It discusses foreign investment, payments and their connection to the gambling industry. Land based gambling is also discussed together with its influence on tourism as well as detailing specific games such as bingo, casino games and online betting.
Some of the numbers in the report were discussed by an R&M spokesman who said, "It is believed that if both the legal and illegal gaming activities were combined in Latin America it is likely that the region would generate over $150 billion a year." He continued to state that the revenue from legal gambling in Latin America is an enormous $33 billion of which an even $10 billion is generated from local players. It is speculated that approximately US$250 is spent by the average South American annually on gaming.
With these figures, Latin America is a haven for gaming operators. Offsidegaming, a software provider, has gone into business with Latin American marketing partner Tristar International to start up several sites including casino, poker and online sports betting. Offsidegaming will provide a range of games, customer services and a dedicated player acquisition strategy, while Tristar International will contribute their great record in gaming and experience with local internet marketing.
