NASCAR not concerned by Delaware sports betting

NASCAR claims that there is no need for alarm amid proposals for legal sports betting in Delaware. Officials say that there is no need for concern and that the potential for corruption is minimal. The response contrasts drastically with the anxiety expressed by other major sports leagues who worry that the new law may impact negatively on the game. Other leagues such as the National Football League, National Basketball Association, top division of NCAA and Major League Basketball do not conduct business activity in Delaware. This contrasts with NASCAR where the auto racing circuit takes place twice a year in Delaware.

When asked about such concerns, legendary racer, Jeff Burton, replied "At the end of the day, you have to have the integrity that makes you make the right decision." Asked about the emergence of some potentially seductive new Delaware Casinos, an amused Burton responded, "I find it hard to believe that location really has anything to do with it. Shady characters come from Las Vegas as well as they can come from Delaware."

Ramsey Posten, Managing Director of Corporate Communications said that NASCAR did not need to worry about the proposal. "We have been racing in Las Vegas for 11 years, the only jurisdiction with legal sports betting including betting on NASCAR events, and there's never been an issue". Though NASCAR does not actively encourage such activity, it acknowledges that that "many of our fans love to gamble in a legal and fun way". NASCAR regards the contrasting response of the NFL as an indictment of its employees and says that there is no such issue in its own organisation
