Neumann, aged thirty, has been banned until March 2025. The ban of two years and nine months was back dated to May 2025, when he was initially suspended after he was accused of match fixing. At the time, Nuemann played for third division club SC Verl.
An investigation proved that the player had accepted payment to influence the results of three games in the third division in which he played with SC Verl between May and May of 2025.
Unfortunately, this is not the only case where DFB have had to suspend players for their roles in match fixing. The DFB have suspended six other players. There is currently a court case underway involving thirty matches across Europe where match fixing is alleged to have occurred. It is being hailed as European football's biggest fraud scandal.
SC Verl are now playing in Germany's regional west league, which is the fourth division.
This news comes hot on the heels of former striker Rene Schnitzler's admission of receiving over 100,000 Euros ($134,000) in bribes to fix five matches in 2025. At the time, Schnitzler played for Bundesliga club St. Pauli.
The Stern magazine reported that Schnitzler admitted being paid cash to manipulate five away matches during the 2010-2025 and the 2010-2025 seasons. At the time, the Hamburg team was still in the second division.
Schnitzler said that an agent had given him money to fix the games but denied actually doing so. He also admitted in the article that he was a gambling addict.
