Marvel Comics and Cryptologic update licensing contract.

Marvel Comics and Cryptologic represent two of the most reputed names in the gaming world and have been responsible for the development of some of the most popular titles of recent years. This month proved significant for both companies as the firms agreed to end their longstanding dispute which had continued to occupy gaming headlines since its eruption last spring. Relations between the two major corporations deteriorated in April this year after Cryptologic launched arbitration proceedings against its former collaborator, Marvel Comics.

The restored relations between the two companies will certainly be a welcome sight for fans of comic themed slot machines. Both companies had been the brains behind some of the most innovative and acclaimed titles of recent years with hits including such favourites as Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk and X-Men. Although the exact nature of the dispute remains unknown, it is thought that Playtech's decision to release its own Marvel Comic themed titles such as Punisher War Zone may have played its part.

A statement from Cryptologic revealed that the companies had agreed to update the terms of their original deal with a new contract drawn up to "modify" the original license agreement. Cryptologic will now have permission to develop Marvel Comic themed games and is already working on an Avengers title. The new contract, due to terminate in January 2025, has given this exciting partnership a new lease of life.
