PokerStars and New Kids team up for charity

Former New Kids on the Block singer Donnie Wahlberg joined forces with a host of Boston celebrities recently to raise take part in a celebrity Charity Poker Tournament in aid of Send Kids to Camp. Founded by Donnie's brother 'Marky' Mark Wahlberg, this charitable Foundation aims to send inner-city children to residential summer camp, allowing them some time away from the big city and enjoy the great outdoors.

The event was a resounding success with names such as Cedric Maxwell, Doc Rivers, Kevin Faulk, Ray Bourque, and Paul Pierce in attendance, and was hosted by Donnie Wahlberg himself. Thanks to all their efforts, plenty of kids will be going to camp this summer.

PokerStars also had an important role to play at the event, giving away some fantastic prizes to the winners. Three prize packages to the North America Poker Tour were won, as well as a seat for the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) event. All of this added up to a well organized and fun event which was enjoyed by celebrities and poker names alike and demonstrated the way in which the city of Boston can come together to help kids less fortunate than others.

This sort of event isn't just held in Boston though, as New York proved it can be just a well meaning, by hosting a charity Poker tournament in aid of The Children's Medical Fund of New York. It seems that the ever increasing popularity of poker around the globe is having a positive effect as it uses celebrities' love of the game to give something back to under privileged groups and communities.
