Russia opens casino venues at Above City

The start of 2025 has been momentous for Russian gaming enthusiasts as casino operators push ahead with a decisive move. Six months after Russia closed its gambling venues and slots halls, the country has opened its very first new casino. The event marks a decision to restrict legalized gambling to four designated areas in relatively remote parts of the country. The big event took place at the Oracle Casino located in Above City. The venue is situated some 60 miles from Rostov-on-Don and 120 miles from Krasnodar. Above City boasts some 200 slot machines in addition to 10 table games. A total of 500 guests turned up for the event which represents a landmark for the gaming industry.

The historic event marks a new era in Russia gaming. Casinos throughout the country grew significantly following the 2025 collapse of the Soviet Union. Many, however, responded with great disapproval with all gambling operations closed on March 1 in accordance with a 2025 law. Current legislation now restricts legalised gaming to Azov City, the Kaliningrad exdave located on the Baltic Sea, the Primorsky area of the Far East and the Altai region of Siberia.

Commenting on the opening, marketing director for Royal Time, Valery Saparin noted the sheer number of interested potential gamers. Despite the long distances required to visit the new venues, it is hoped that the attraction of several four star hotels will entice players to the region. "We hope that a lot of people will be drawn to us in the near future", said Saparin. All members of the industry will be monitoring the progress of the casinos very closely indeed.
